Aloha Airlines Offers $39 Inter-Island Airfare

In March of 2006, Aloha Airlines announced they would matched the $39 inter-island airfare available from the newestinter-island air carrier, Go! Airlines.

March 2006 Announcement from Aloha Airlines

Aloha's Funbird Will Return With $39 Fares

Aloha Airlines will turn back the clock with a $39 one-way inter-island fare as it prepares to roll out an aircraft in Aloha’s classic Funbird colors.

Aloha’s $39 Funbird Fare will go on sale today for travel between Honolulu, Kauai, Maui , Kona and Hilo, during the period June 9 through September 30, 2006. Act fast because the sale ends on April 7, 2006.

"For 60 years, Aloha has been part of the fabric of Hawaii, and Hawaii’s people know us as part of their family," said David A. Banmiller, Aloha’s President and Chief Exectutive Officer. "They know they can depend on Aloha for reliable, efficient, friendly all-jet service. We’re rewarding their loyalty by bringing back $39 one-way fares and while we’re at it, we’ll be bringing back a Funbird airplane to celebrate the 60th anniversary of service to Hawaii."

Flower Power will be back in style when the Funbird livery of the late Sixties returns to Hawaii skies. One of four Boeing 737 passenger jets that will be delivered to Aloha over the next few months will be painted Funbird colors. Why? - Just for fun!

Orange was the "in" color when Aloha rolled out its new Boeing 737 aircraft in 1969. The Funbird design featured a spray of bright yellow, gold and orange plumeria on the plane’s orange tail, a swath of orange across the fuselage and the name Aloha in bold orange letters.

Legend has it that the president of Boeing was appalled by the design but it was an instant hit with the flying public. And Aloha Airlines ordered new orange-hued Flower Power uniforms to go with it.

"The Funbird brings back a wave of nostalgia and the fun of flying," said Thom Nulty, Aloha’s Senior Vice President Marketing and Sales. "When you see this plane flying from island to island later this year, you’ll immediately think of the good times when everything seemed laid-back, and uh, groovy."

Aloha will mark its 60th anniversary on July 26. Aloha’s first revenue flight as the charter carrier Trans-Pacific Airlines operated between Honolulu and Hilo via Kahului on that day in 1946.

Today, Aloha serves Honolulu, Lihue, Kahului, Kona and Hilo with comfortable, full-size jets and convenient flights throughout the day, including hourly departures on the hour between Oahu and Maui, and Oahu and Kauai. Aloha also offers transpacific service between the Islands and Oakland, Sacramento, Orange County, San Diego, Las Vegas and Reno.
