Chicken Long Rice
Long rice is really not a rice at all. It is a transparent Chinese noodle made of mung bean flour. Long rice is often called "cellophane noodles" because if its appearance.

Chicken Luau
This modern version of a Hawaiian recipe combines boneless chicken pieces with spinach and coconut milk and seasons it with chicken stock and garlic.

Curry Stew
Curry stew is a staple at Hawaiian plate lunch cafes. It typically includes beef, potatoes, carrots, and onions, and it is served over steamed white rice.

Chili and Rice
Serve this smooth and fragrant chili over scoops of steamed rice, with or without condiments.

Haupia Coconut Pudding
Haupia is a simple Hawaiian coconut pudding made with coconut milk, a sweetener, and a thickener.

Huli Huli Chicken
This popular Hawaiian barbecued chicken is often sold at fund raisers in Hawaii. Locals in Hawaii scan the newspaper on weekends looking for Huli Huli benefits.

Kalua Pig
Traditional Kalua Pig is pork roasted in an underground oven called an Imu, but simpler versions can be cooked in a modern oven or a crock pot.

Lau Lau
This version of Laulau is made with chicken, pork, and butterfish, but some simpler versions use only chicken and substitute spinach for luau leaves and banana leaves for ti leaves.

Loco Moco
Loco Moco is a popular and hearty Hawaiian breakfast dish that some say was invented in the 1940's in Hilo Town on the Big Island of Hawaii. A Loco Moco is white rice, topped with a hamburger patty, topped with a fried egg, and smothered with gravy.

Lomi Lomi Salmon
Lomi Lomi Salmon is an appetizer that always appears on the menu of a Hawaiian luau. It is a mixture of salted salmon, tomatoes, and onions.

Macaroni and Potato Salad
This double carb dish sounded strange to me when I first saw it on the menu of a plate lunch cafe in Hawaii, but it has grown on me, and now it is one of my favorites.

Poke
A raw seafood salad that is made with soy sauce, onions, red pepper, sesame seeds, and chopped macadamia nuts. It is often made with raw Ahi (tuna) but it can also be made with octopus, crab, and other raw seafood.

Portuguese Bean Soup
The Hawaiian food of today is a mix of foods introduced by the many different ethnic groups who settled in Hawaii at different times. Portuguese food is very common in Hawaii, including this ham, kidney bean, and vegetable soup.

Spam Fried Rice
Spam and other canned meats are popular for everyday meals in Hawaii, and even those are not fans of Spam often find it tasty when cut into matchstick size pieces, fried, and added to fried rice.

Spam Musubi
Hawaiian Musubi is a form of sushi, and one of the most popular versions in Hawaii is made with canned Spam. You will see this snacked wrapped in cellophane for sale everywhere in Hawaii.
