South Oahu Visitor Attractions

Information about visitor attractions on the south side of the island of Oahu in Hawaii, from downtown Honolulu to Makapuu Point.

Beaches of South Oahu

Waikiki Beach
The most visited beach on Oahu. Includes Kuhio Beach, Queens Surf Beach, Duke Kahanamoku Beach, San Souci Beach, and others.

Ala Moana Beach Park
Family beach park across the street from Ala Moana Shopping Center, between Waikiki and the Aloha Tower.

Hanauma Bay
Most popular snorkeling spot on Oahu. Sometimes the parking lot fills up by noon.

Sandy Beach
Popular spot for bodysurfing and skimboarding. Surf is typically very rough. Located east of Waikiki on the southeast coast of Oahu.

Makapuu Beach
Another popular bodysurfing beach with rough surf. Located east of Waikiki on the southeast coast of Oahu.

Hiking Trails and Scenic Lookouts

Diamond Head Crater Trail
Hike to the top of diamond Head Crater for a beautiful view over Waikiki and Southwest Oahu.

Makapuu Lighthouse Trail
Located at Makapuu Point on the southeast coast of Oahu.

Manoa Falls Trail
A hiking trail through a tropical rain forest in the Manoa Valley that leads to the Moanoa Waterfall.

Pali Lookout
Panoramic views of Kaneohe Bay, Kailua Town, the cliffs of the Koolau Mountains, and other parts of the windward side of Oahu.

Halona Blow Hole
The Halona Blowhole is a spot on the southeast coast of Oahu where the ocean waves are pushed forcibly through an underground tube, causing the water to spurt up to thirty feet into the air. Located next to Sandy Beach, on the Waikiki side.

Historic Sites and Museums in South Oahu

Waikiki Historic Trail
A self-guided walking tour of Waikiki that includes the twenty-three sites on the Waikiki Historic Trail. Nineteen of those sites are marked with six foot tall surfboard monuments. Each surfboard marker is printed with photos and historic information.

Historic Downtown Honolulu
Photos and information about historic sites in the downtown capitol district of Honolulu. That district is located on the Waikiki side of the Downtown Honolulu financial district and a few blocks inland from the Aloha Tower.

Bishop Museum
The largest museum in Hawaii is located in the Kalihi District of Honolulu. It has a large collection of ancient Polynesian and Hawaiian artifacts as well as exhibits featuring the Hawaiian Monarchy, Hawaii's missionary, plantation, and whaling history, and the history of Hawaii's many different ethnic groups.

Hawaii Army Museum
Located in Fort DeRussy Park, on the Ala Moana end of Waikiki, between the Waikiki Shore Condominiums and the Hale Koa Military Hotel.

Hawaii Maritime Center
Located on Ala Moana Boulevard, next to the Aloha Tower, on the Waikiki side of the Aloha Tower Marketplace.

Other South Oahu Attractions

Honolulu Zoo
Located at the corner of Kalakaua Avenue and Kapahulu Avenue on the Diamond Head end of Waikiki.

Waikiki Aquarium
Located on Kalakaua Avenue, on the Diamond Head side of the Honolulu Zoo, across the street from Kapiolani Park.

Kapiolani Park
A large city park on the Diamond head end of Waikiki. Often festivals, concerts and other special events take place in Kapiolani Park.
