Introduction to Sandy Beach
Sandy Beach is located at 8800 Kalaniana'ole Highway
just east of the Halona Blowhole
and in front of Koko Crater.
The beach is about 1200 feet long and 200 feet wide, and because
of the steep drop at the shoreline, there is rough
surf at Sandy Beach all year.
Facilities at Sandy Beach include a grassy area, restrooms,
showers, and free parking.
Good For Wave-Riding, Not for Swimming
Sandy Beach is a popular spot for experts to practice
wave-riding sports such as bodysurfing, bodyboarding,
and skimboarding, but most of the time it is not a good place
for casual swimming or inexperienced bodyboarders,
because of the dangerous currents and powerful shorebreak.
It is, however,a great place to take pictures of bodyboarding
and bodysurfing because the surf breaks very close to the shore.
