Polynesian Cultural Center
One of the most popularvisitor attractions in Hawaii
is the Polynesian Cultural Center in the town of Laie,
on the northeast coast of the Island of Oahu.

The Polynesian Cultural Center was founded in 1963
to preserve and portray the culture, arts, and crafts
of Polynesian countries to the rest of the world.
The center is a 42-acre complex of Polynesian "islands" representing Fiji,
Hawaii, New Zealand (Maori), the Marquesas, Samoa, Tahiti
and Tonga. between the vilages there are lagoons and canals
that are used for colorful canoe pageants and guided canoe tours.
Other attractions at the Polynesian Cultural Center include
the 2700 seat Pacific Amphitheater, where an evening show is held,
An IMAX giant screen movie theatre,
a one acre "Alii Luau" site, the Gateway Restaurant,
which seats 1000, and the "Treasures of Polynesia" shopping center.
The Polynesian Cultural Center has more than 1,200 employees,
700 of whom are students at the nearby Brigham Young
University in Hawaii.
