"NightTime With Andy Bumatai" TV Show
You can be part of the studio audience!
One of the most entertaining evenings I've had in Waikiki in a very long time was watching
a taping of the new "NightTime with Andy Bumatai" TV show in the Tropics Showroom
of the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort. Everyone is invited to be part of the show's
studio audience, it's FREE, and it is one of the most fun, entertaining, and unusual nighttime
experiences you can have in Waikiki. I highly recommend it.

About Andy Bumatai
Andy Bumatai is a great-looking, charismatic and hilariously funny guy who has
been one of my favorite comedians since I first saw him perform in Waikiki early
in his career. At that time he delivered a screamingly funny show featuring clever,
spot-on impersonations and funny stories about all of the different ethnic groups
in Hawaii. Andy won best comedy album of the year Hoku Awards for his
"Andy: Live in Waikiki" album in 1980, his "All in the Ohana" album in 1981, and his
"Stand Up Comic 198421994" album in 1995. If you are not accustom
to Hawaii's local style humor, it might seem politically incorrect at first,
but believe me, the locals in Hawaii love it. Nobody is spared and nobody is offended.
Andy's local style jokes are toned down in his new night show, perhaps because he is
targeting a more international audience, but that doesn't stop him from inviting
some of Hawaii's top local comedians to perform on his TV show.
Who Are the Guests on the Show?
Half the fun of the NightTime show is Andy Bumatai's engaging personality and clever
sense of humor and the other half is his wonderful and eclectic array of guests.
I watched two of his tapings and I was blown away by the caliber of the talent.
The guests at his September 26, 2007 taping included the internationally renown
singer John Cruz, 6'8" Elvis impersonator Jonathan Von Brana and his hula dancers,
local comedian Kento, dream interpreter Paul Unkrur, physical fitness
expert Julie Anderson, and a fabulous young ukulele player named Taimane
Gardner. Andy's October 3, 2007 taping featured Gomer Pyle actor Jim Nabors, Jeannie
Buss of the Los Angeles Lakers, an incredible contortionist from the Cirque
Hawaii show, author Audrey King Lewis, and two musical performances, jazz duo
Mike and Ginai and solo jazz singer Anjj. Check the show's Web site at
Ntphawaii.com to learn about upcoming guests.
When Are the Shows Taped?
There are usually taping sessions once or twice a week in the Tropics Showroom of
the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort. Typically three half hour shows are taped during
a three hour filming session. Check the show's Web site at
Ntphawaii.com to find out when future shows will be taped.
How to Get There
The Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort is on Kalia Road, on the Ala Moana end of Waikiki.
If you drive you can have your parking validated at the resort, but if (like me)
you hate driving in Waikiki you can take bus #8, #19, or #20. Get off at the
bus stop for the Hale Koa Hotel and the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort.
When you arrive at the resort, stand next to the SuperPool, facing the ocean.
The Rainbow Tower will be on your right and the Tropics Surf Beach Bar will be
on your left. The Tropics Showroom is right behind that bar.
Important Note
Remember, this is not really a nightclub act, it's an actual TV show
being filmed. You won't be able to chat or take flash photos
while the show is being filmed and you will need to turn off
your cell phone. You will, however, get a fascinating look at the behind
the scenes action of a television show being filmed, and at the
same time be entertained by Andy's clever and irreverent humor and his talented and diverse
array of guests. You are also welcome to bring in drinks from the adjacent
bar and enjoy them during the show.
