Kuhio Beach Park
Waikiki, Oahu, Hawaii

Kuhio Beach Park includes the section of Waikiki Beach between the historic Moana Hotel and the Kapahulu Groin. The offshore retaining wall at Kuhio Beach creates a sheltered swimming swimming area, making it a popular beach for family outings.

History of Kuhio Beach
This beach area was known as Pualeilani when Prince Kuhio and his wife Princess Kahanu lived here, but in 1918, Prince Kuhio opened the beach to the public, and it was renamed in his honor. There was not much of a beach in this area until the 1951 Waikiki Beach Improvement Project brought sand from other parts of Oahu. The Kapahulu Groin was also part of that project.

Facilities and Activities
Kuhio beach has picnic tables, restrooms, showers, a snackbar, and concessions renting surfboards, bodyboards, snorkeling gear, beach chairs, umbrellas, and other sports and beach equipment.

Kuhio Beach Torch Lighting Ceremony
Almost every evening at sunset there is a torch lighting ceremony, hula performances, and strolling musicians on Kuhio Beach. Beach access is off of Kalakaua Avenue.
