This fifty acre outdoor plantation life museum is a village
of plantation homes which are historic buildings or
accurate replicas of the homes and community buildings
of plantation workers who traveled to Hawaii from China,
Portugal, Japan, Puerto Rico, Okinawa, Korea, and the
Philippines. Those created a multicultural society, although for
many years, only the Chinese inter-married with the
Hawaiians. Other ethnic groups either
brought their families with them or mail ordered brides
from their home countries.
Visitors to Hawaii's Plantation Village are given a
one hour guided tour. The museum is
open Monday-Saturday, 10 am to 2 pm. It is closed on Sunday.
