2007 Portuguese Festa
The first Portuguese Festa took place in Honollu
in 1978 and the 30th annual event took place at the
McCoy Pavilion in Honolulu's Ala Moana Beach Park
Saturday, September 20, 2008. Featured entertainers
included award winning Hawaii comedian Frank De Lima.
Food featured at the event will include
malasadas, Portuguese bean soup,
vinha d'alhos pork, cod fish stew and Portguese
sausages on sweetbread hotdog buns. Admission is
$3 per person and proceeds will support genaelogy
workshops, dance classes, cooking shows,
language lessons, and other activities organized
by the Hawaii Council on Portuguese Heritage.

Waikiki Roughwater Swim
The 39th annual Waikiki Roughwater Swim
took place Monday, September 1, 2008.
at 9:00 a.m.
The course began in front of the New Otani Kaimana
Beach hotel at the Natatorium
on San Souci Beach on the diamond head
end of Waikiki Beach. The course ended near the
Rainbow Tower of the Hilton Hawaiian Village
Resort on the Ala Moana end of Waikiki Beach.
The event distance was 2.348 miles.
