Downtown Honolulu

Downtown Honolulu is the area bordered by Honolulu Harbor on the south, Vinyard Boulevard on the north, the Nuuanu Stream on the West, and Ward Avenue on the East. Downtown Honolulu has four main areas: The capitol and historic area, the business district, the waterfront area, and Chinatown.

Capitol and Historic District of Honolulu

Business District of Honolulu
The central business district of Honolulu has the most tall skyscrapers in the area. This area is centered around Bishop Street and the fort Street Mall, a pedestrian walkway down the middle of downtown Honolulu. Most of the headquarters of international and Hawaii-based large companies are in this area.

Waterfront Honolulu
Downtown Honolulu's waterfront area is centered around the Aloha Tower, which at one time was the tallest building in Hawaii, and a world famous landmark of Hawaii, especially for cruise ships entering Honolulu Harbor. Located in this area are the Aloha Tower Marketplace, the Hawaii Maritime Center Museum, and the historic Falls of Clyde sailing ship.

Chinatown Honolulu
Honolulu's Chinatown area is located between the Nuuanu Steam and Nuuanu Avenue on the west side of Honolulu's central business district. The Hawaii Theater, many Chinese restaurants and businesses, and the open air Oahu Market area located in Honolulu's Chinatown, and the area has recently also become a center for the arts in Honolulu. In May of 2006, Chinatown Honolulu was designated a "Preserve America Community Neighborhood" by the United States White House Advisory Council on Historical Preservation.
