Oahu Chess Parks and Clubs

Information about chess parks, public chess tables, and chess clubs in Honolulu and on other parts of the island of Oahu in Hawaii.

Where to Play Chess in Hawaii

Kuhio Beach Chess Park in Waikiki
The old Waikiki Chess Park was located on Kalakaua Avenue, across the street from McDonald's Restaurant, but that one was torn down as part of a Kuhio Beach improvement project, I think in 2005 or 2006. Fortunately the city of Honolulu included some checkerboard tables and small lockers in most of the shaded picnic areas they built along Kalakaua Avenue in Kuhio Beach Park

Mililani Town Center Open Chess Sessions
There are weekly two hour open chess sessions at the Town Center Shopping Mall in Mililani, which is located in central Oahu.

Pearl Highlands Open Chess Sessions
There are weekly three hour open chess sessions at the Pearl Highlands Shopping Center in Pearl City, which is located near Pearl Harbor on the south coast of Oahu.

Oahu Chess Clubs

Kailua Chess Club
The Kailua Chess Club meets every week at Kailua District Park on Kainalu Drive, which is located on the southeast side of Oahu.

Manoa Chess Club
A chess club based at the Manoa Valley District Park. Club organizes open play sessions, chess tournaments, and also offers free chess lessons.

Mililani Chess Club
The Mililani Chess Club meets weekly at Rec Center 6 on Konaku Street in Mililani. Sit3e includes an event calendar, tournament results, and news.

Pearlridge Chess Club
A chess club based at Pearlridge Center in Aiea, which is located on Pearl Harbor on the south coast of Oahu. Club organizes practice sessions, tournaments, and offers free chess lessons.

University of Hawaii at Manoa Chess Club
The Web site of the UH Chess Club includes a roster of members and a calendar of chess tournaments and other events.

Windward Chess Club
An organization located on the windward (southeast) side of Oahu that was formed to promote the games of Chess and Go in their community by organizing chess tournaments, lectures, and exhibitions, finding mentors for school chess sprograms, and developing new players by teaching beginner lessons.
