Palaau State Park
North Molokai, Hawaii

Palaau State Park is a 234 acre forest park on a North Molokai cliff about 1600 feet above Kalaupapa and the Makanalua Peninsula. Palaau Park is the only place you can view Kalaupapa if you are not planning to get there by scaling a cliff, by riding a mule, by plane, or by boat. The rocky formation pictured below is called Phallic Rock and it is said that women who bring offerings to this rock, and spend the night near it, will become pregnant by the next day!

The most popular attractions in Palaau State Park are two trails: One leading to a scenic lookout on a cliff high above the Makanalua Peninsula and the Kalaupapa leprosy colony and one leading to a geological structure known as Phallic Rock

Most if the park is filled with ironwood, koa, cypress, and eucalyptus forests but there also some meadow areas. Facilities include a picnic shelter, picnic tables, parking, and toilets, but no drinking water. Camping is allowed in a specific area with a permit. For more information about camping in the park call 808-567-6618.

The Palaau State Park is located at the end of the Kalae Highway, about three miles north of Kualapuu and 8 or 10 miles from the town of Kaunakakai.
