Iao Valley State Park
Maui, Hawaii
Iao Valley State Park is a 6.2 acre park in the West Maui Mountains
that is operated by the state of Hawaii.
Attractions in the park include the Iao Needle, the
Iao Valley, the Hawaii Nature Center, and
Kepaniwai Park Heritage Gardens.

The Iao Needle
The dramatic, 1200 foot tall, geological formation
known as the Iao Needle is the most famous attraction
in Iao Valley State Park.
The Iao Valley
The Iao Valley is a beautiful natural area with hiking
trails, streams, pools, lush tropical vegetation, and
lookout points.
Hawaii Nature Center of Maui
This group's narrated "Rainforest Walk" through the Iao Valley
crosses the Iao Stream and enters the center's
35 acre grounds where there is an old village site,
a taro patch, and views of the Iao Needle.
Kepaniwai Park Heritage Gardens
This multi-ethnic garden in the Iao Valley features a
Japanese garden, a Chinese moon gate, a Portuguese
outdoor oven, a grass and stone house, picnic tables, and
a gift shop.

The Iao Valley State Park is not well developed, and
there is no drinking water but there are restrooms,
a paved parking lot, and hiking trails.
The state park can be reached from Wailuku in central
Maui by driving west on Highway 32 (Kaahumanu Road).
That highway turns into Iao Valley Road where signs
will direct you to the park.
