Iao Needle
Maui, Hawaii

The Iao Needle is a dramatic, 1200 foot tall, geological formation at the end of a ridge inside Iao Valley State Park, which is located in the West Maui Mountains on the island of Maui in Hawaii.

The Iao Needle is a tall remenant of lava that rises 1200 feet above sea leavel and 2250 feet above the ocean floor. It is surrounded by the cliffs of the Iao Valley and covered with vegetation.

There is a short trail to a windy overlook where visitors can get good views the Iao Needle. The best views are often in the morning because the formation is often hidden behind clouds.
