A collection of photos of the upper and lower sections of Haleakala National Park on the island of Maui in Hawaii. The upper section of the park is the area centered around the summit of Mount Haleakala and the Haleakala volcanic crater. The lower section of the park is located at the coast in the lush Kipahulu Valley. Attractions in that area include the famous Oheo Gulch waterfalls and pools.

Hikers Inside the Crater
This spectacular photo by Ron Dahlquist features four hikers on a trail inside the Haleakala Crater.

Sliding Sands Trail
The ten mile Sliding Sands Trail is one of the most popular hiking trails inside Haleakala Crater. it begins at the Summit Visitor's Center and ends at the Paliku Wilderness Cabin on the east side of the crater. Along the way, at the 6 mile mark, it passes the Kapalaoa Wilderness Cabin.

Cycling Down Mount Haleakala
One of the most popular activities in Haleakala National Park is cycling from the summit of the Haleakala Volcano to lower elevations.

Haleakala Visitors Center
There are two visitors center in Haleakala National Park. The visitors center pictured here is located at the summit of Mount Haleakala, on the crater rim. The other visitors' center is located in the lower coastal portion of the park.

This astrophysical research centerat the summit of Mount Healeakala is operated by the University of Hawaii, the Smithsonian Institution, and the United States Government.
