The 10 Largest Hotels in Hawaii

Most of the ten largest hotels in Hawaii are located in Waikiki on the south coast of the island of Oahu, but the 4th largest hotel in Hawaii is located on the Kohola coast of the Big Island and the 10th largest hotel in Hawaii is in the Kaanapali Resort area of Maui. If you want to make new friends and socialize during your trip, large hotels are often a good choice. Other benefits of large hotels: they typically have more restaurants, more bars, more swimming pools, more shops, and more organized activities then smaller hotels.

  1. Hilton Hawaiian Village (Oahu)
Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort The enormous Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort on Waikiki Beach has nearly 3000 rooms, making it the largest hotel in Hawaii by a large margin. It is located on the far west end of Waikiki, between the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor and Fort DeRussy Park. The resort is split into six "villages" or towers, making it feel smaller then the mammoth resort that it is. The Hilton Hawaiian village has five pools, more then twenty restaurants, several shopping areas, and its own branch of the Bishop Museum. The hotel also has a children's program called the Rainbow Express Keiki Club and the body treatments at the resort's Mandara Spa include a chocolate massage for two!

  2. Sheraton Waikiki Beach Hotel (Oahu)
Sheraton Waikiki Hotel The second largest hotel in Hawaii has 1695 rooms in two connected thirty-one story towers and one older six story building. The hotel sits directly on Waikiki Beach between the luxurious Halekulani and Royal Hawaiian Hotels. The "V" shape of the main building allows half the rooms to face the ocean. The resort has three restaurants, a fitness center, two swimming pools, and a children's program with on-site and off-site activities.

  3. Waikiki Beach Marriott (Oahu)
Waikiki Beach Marriott The Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort and Spa is located in Waikiki, across the street from Kuhio Beach. It was named the Hawaiian Regent until management was taken over by Marriott in 2000, and in 2002 $60 million in renovation work was done. The second floor Spa Olakino was designed to feel like a rainforest and there is a swimming pool in the mountain-side Paoakalani Tower.

  4. Hilton Waikoloa Village (Big Island)
Hilon Waikoloa Village The Hilton Waikoloa Village is a huge resort on 62 acres on the Big island of Hawaii. Guests go from place to place on trams, boats, and artwork lines the walkways and waterways. Elaborate pool with waterslide and a dolphin lagoonmake this a great place for kids, and they also have a wonderful children's program.

  5. Hyatt Regency Waikiki (Oahu)
Hyatt Regency Waikiki The Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort and Spa is located across the street from Waikiki Beach on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. If you like large hotels you will love this one, because it is a huge hotel that feels huge. The resort covers an entire city blockand the central courtyard is 40 floors high. Attractions at the hotel include the Na Hoola Spa and Fitness Center and a children's camp from June to August.

  6. Ala Moana Hotel (Oahu)
Ala Moana Hotel The Ala Moana Hotel has 1200 rooms and it is located between downtown Honoluu and Waikiki, near Ala Moana Shopping Center, Ala Moana Beach Park, and the Hawaii Convention Center. The Ala Moana is no longer the low cost option it once was, but it's location makes it a popular choice for conventioneers and visitors who love to shop. Amenities include a swimming pool, a fitness center, four restaurants, the Rumours Nightclub, and the Hawaiian Hut Showroom.

  7. Princess Kaiulani Hotel (Oahu)
Princess Kaiulani Hotel Located on Kuhio Avenue, one block from the beach. Huge swiming pool with entertainment in the evening. Efforts have been made to make the rooms soundproof. Home of the musical theater production: "Creation: A Polynesian Odyssey".

  8. Pacific Beach Hotel (Oahu)
Pacific Beach Hotel The thirty-eight story, two-tower Pacific Beach Hotel is located directly across the street from Waikiki Beach on the island of Oahu, and it has more then 800 rooms. The hotel's signature attraction is its three-story, 280,000 gallon salt water aquarium that is visible from three of the hotel's restaurants. Other attractions include four restaurants, the Rainforest Spa, a 24-Hour Fitness center, a swimming pool, a hot tub, and tennis courts.

  9. Hale Koa Hotel (Oahu)
Hale Koa Hotel The Hale Koa Hotel sits directly on the west end of Waikiki beach, in the middle of sixty park-like grassy acres with picnic tables and barbecues. The hotel has two towers and just over 800 rooms. Important Note: the Hale Koa Hotel is an Armed Forces Recreational Center and therefore only active and retired military personnel, and their guests, can stay there.

  10. Hyatt Regency Maui (Maui)
Hyatt Regency Maui Hotel The Hyatt Regency Maui Hotel in Kaanapali on the west coast of Maui features 40 acres of park-like grounds with waterfalls, three swimming pool, a spa, fitness center, tennis courts, four restaurants, four bars, and a children's activity program.

At one time, the Outrigger Reef on the Beach hotel was one of the 10 largest hotels in Hawaii, but it is currently in the process of being renovated as part of the Waikiki Beach Walk Project. One its towers will always be closed until the Fall of 2008, and I'm not sure how many rooms the hotel will have when the project is completed.
