Keomuku Village on Lanai
Information about Keomuku Village on the island
of Lanai.
|
This was the population center of Lanai
in the 1890s, when the Maunalei Sugar Company
made an effort to raise sugar cane along
the coast of Lanai. The company eventually
failed. At one time the Gay family
used Keomoku as the coastal headquarters
for their cattle and sheep ranching activities,
but by 1951, that was no longer the case,
and the remaining population of
Keomoku move to Lanai City.
Not much remains of Keomoku Village today, except
the Malamalama Church, which has been restored.
