Kilauea Lighthouse

The famous Kilauea Lighthouse is located on the northern-most tip of the Hawaiian Islands, near the town of Kilauea and within the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge.

History of the Kilauea Lighthouse
The Kilauea Lighthouse was constructed in 1912 and 1913 and the formal lighting ceremony was held on May 6, 1913. It was temporarily shut down during World War II to avoid aiding the enemy. It resumed operations after the war and a modern tower was constructed in 1976. The original tower was placed on the National Register of Historic places on October 18, 1979.
