Martin Luther King Day in Hawaii
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a state holiday in
Hawaii and it is observed every year on the second or third Monday of January.
Celebrations in Honolulu typically include a Sunday night
candlelight ceremony, a Monday morning parade through Waikiki,
and a full day of events in Kapiolani Park.
2007 Martin Luther King Day Events in Hawaii
Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be celebrated on Monday, January 15
in 2007. Oahu events will include a bell ringing ceremony at the Nagasaki Peace Bell,
a Monday morning parade through Waikiki, and an all day Unity
Rally in Kapiolani Park.
PARADE:
The parade will begin at 9:00 am
and it is expected to have 20 floats, 2000 marchers,
10 vehicles, and 6 bands. The parade route will begin at Ala Moana
Park and it will proceed down Ala Moana Boulevard, to
Kalakaua Avenue, to Monsarrat Avenue, to the Waikiki Shell
Parking Lot in Queen Kapiolani Park.
UNITY RALLY:
After the parade there
will be an all-day Unity Rally in Kapiolani Park,
from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
