Captain Cook Monument
Big Island of Hawaii

British explorer Captain James Cook died in Kealakekua Bay on the Big Island of Hawaii on February 14, 1779 in a dispute with the native population over a theft. This obelisk was erected on the shore Kealakekua Bay in November of 1874. There is also a plaque covered with water that marks the exact location of Captain cook's death.
