USS Hawaii Submarine and Ship
The United States Navy has named two of the vessels
after the State of Hawaii: the USS Hawaii (CB-3_ Navy cruiser
and the USS Hawaii (SSN-776) nuclear submarine. The Navy
also named one of their submarines after King Kamehameha
the Great.

In April of 2006 the U.S. Navy announced that the
third of their Virginia-class attack submarines
would be named after the state of Hawaii. The USS Hawaii (SSN-0776)
is expected to be launched in 2007.

USS Hawaii Navy Cruiser

The first United States Navy ship to be named
the USS Hawaii was an Alaska-class U.S. Navy cruiser
known as the USS Hawaii (CB-3). The ship was
partially constructed during World War II but
it was never completed.

The United States Navy also named a submarine
after Hawaii's King Kamehameha I:
USS Kamehameha

This United States Navy submarine was one of
41 Polaris fleet ballistic missile submarines
built in the 1960's. the USS Kamehameha was
commissioned in 1965 and decommissioned in 2002.
