USS Hawaii CB-3 Navy Cruiser

The first United States Navy ship to be named the USS Hawaii was an Alaska-class U.S. Navy cruiser known as the USS Hawaii (CB-3). The ship was partially constructed during World War II but it was never completed.

Construction of the 27,500 ton USS Hawaii (CB-3) submarine was begun in 1945 by the New York Shipbuilding Corporation in Camden New Jersey. Construction was halted in 1947, when the ship was nearly 85% complete, when defense expenses were reduced after World War II. The Navy considered putting the USS Hawaii (CB-3) into service several times over the years, but she was eventually sold for scrap in 1954 to the Boston Metals Company in Baltimore,Maryland.
