Why Sacred Falls State Park is Closed
Sacre Falls State Park Sacred Falls State Park is a 1370 acre park located about one mile south of Hauula Town on the windward side of Oahu. The park was named after an 80 foot waterfall that lies at the end of a narrow canyon. Hiking in the park has always been considered risky, because of slippery footing on the trail and the danger of flash floods in the narrow canyon. The park was completely closed to the public after a rock slide in the canyon killed eight hikers and injured fifty others on Mother's Day 1999.
