Once a month there is a very popular open mike poetry reading in Honolulu called the Hawaii Slam that typically attracts more then 600 people. In addition to poets, there are often live musicians and live painters on the stage. The event takes place on the first Thursday of every month in the Hawaiian Hut Showroom on the ground level of the Ala Moana Hotel.December 2005
