Most of the caves in Hawaii are underground lava tubes, and several of them can be explored, with or without a guide. There is a cave near Hana on the east coast of Maui and several caves on the Big Island, including the 400 foot Thurston Lava Tube in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the 60 kilometer Kazumura Cave, which is one of the longest and deepest lava tubes in the world. Guided tours for all levels of spelunkers are available at most of these caves. For more information see Cave Exploration in HawaiiDecember 2005
